I believe I was at the 1973 concert in Flint, MI. Bob played at the Flint IMA with Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO). I believe BTO was the headliner that evening. We were on the floor about 50 feet from the stage. I was just 16 yrs old and it was my first Seger Concert.
The 2-14-73 show was not in Starkville, MS (home of Mississippi State University), but in Columbus, MS (home of Mississippi University for Women). The concert was in the Dave Lavender Coliseum (a pre-fab building with a concrete slab floor, about the same size as a large high school gym) at the Lowndes County Fairgrounds. Bob was the opening act and the headliner was Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes. Highlights were Bob playing a Telecaster Thinline on “Turn the Page,” which was a new song at the time, and Dave Teagarden handling all the bass and keyboard parts by himself (kicked serious ass on “Rambling Gambling Man”). Oh, yeah, “Back in ’72,” the show opener, was a monster as well. Tickets were $10, I think, and I bought them at Beggars Banquet, the local headshop in Starkville. Great show.
My girlfriend and myself were back stage at the Old IMA. We have a few photo’s of the band. First time I met Seger and the Band. Charlie Martin was great very down to earth seen and talked to him at several conerts.
I still have my ticket stub for the Saturday, Feb. 17, 1973 concert at the Masonic Auditorium in Detroit, Michigan. Not my first Seger concert…that was around 1970 at the Autorama, Cobo Arena in Detroit. Still have great memories of that one.
Hi I am from Scotland and have been listening to Bob since I was sixteen with my boyfriend who became my lovely husband, that was 32 years ago and we never got the pleasure of his company here in Scotland that I can recall. A few years ago we joined the fan club for priority ticket buying if we ever got the means to come over, unfortunately my husband died of a brain tumour this year and never got to fulfil that dream, but I have managed to purchase two tickets for his show on 1st December in NY where I will be joined by our old friend who was our chief bridesmaid, also a longtime fan. I can’t possibly pick a favourite track, I love them all and can’t wait to see him. I know my hon will be there with me in spirit and totally approve of me continuing to check off my “Bucket List” Love him always xxxx
I grew up in Mt. Morris Mi. the first farm town north of Flint Mi. which straddles Saginaw St.. It cuts through downtown Flint heading south. I’v seen Bob at least 40 times, no shit !! I saw him at several Armory Gigs, bars, clubs, mi. growing up and Miami his last show/tour before he took his big break to raise his kids. MY FAVORITE show was Skidway lake at a farm with a natural Amphitheater were he played at least 1hr beyond what he was supposed to.He wore a purple suede suit, jeans, jacket, boots and top hat all matching with a purple shirt. By the end of the show he only had his pants and boots still on. If I remember right ( whats the chance of that with all the “smokein’ ) one of the Huns got his hat for helping stop the jerks who tried to disconnect the power cables to the stage. Some locals tried to disconnect the power and the Huns MC kicked their ass’s out of the grounds. A hot chick was wearing his shirt latter which had ruffles on the lapels and another guy had his jacket. They had beat up the guy who owned the property after they realized it was a ” Hippy Rock Concert ” . The local Court upheld his permit and the show went on. My best high school friend Steve ” Curley” Curtis and my other best bud Rick Tricky Dick “Riley rode up in Steves 69 Dodge 500 muscle car. After the show they let everyone camp out and lets tear down the stage to burn a huge bon fire !! I have a picture of myself when I was around 19/20 years old wearing a dark blue Levis Jean Jacket with a Bob Seger ” Back in 72 ” patch on the left breast area. I wore that jacket to the concert and some SOB ripped it off. It was the best Concert I,v ever attended among several 100 I,v attended. Even when I was an AD3 Helo SARcrewman in the U.S.C.G. I would take leave or liberty to go to his concerts as well as others.
Neat way to show Bob Segers tours in the past when I wasn’t alive yet.
